MARGO MONTES de OCA

POPOCATÉPETL CRAWLS
para e.d.r

like lips in the moth-dark                             grass moves on the other side of the mountain
pooling into the shadow of bodies      making them bigger
how do I enter was the question           what is the call

traces of the path       are obscured by those
whose faces have melted into your dream-fire: they flicker
from rock to flesh and bone            like shade coloured by a million shadows

lay her to rest was the answer                  take up the flame
your eyes fill with sight          from somewhere altogether new —
it enters from the other side of the mountain                 like the residue of sleep
or a memory pressed into clay          returned with the earth-tide      open again to the night
