To gather momentum:
this seems monumental.
Push my leg, muscle, hinge, socket
propel the bike, pedal, chain, sprocket
forward; mind becomes motion.
Smoothly we brush past fragments of air
suspended above tyre and road, where
a queue of cars holds my attention.
I hold my balance, in tension
until the changing light.
This time my thoughts might
Pedal away a second, then
shift toward direction
as the green signals momentum.
